Kink Lab Neon Wand Electro Sex Kit Review - A Gentle Introduction To The Pleasures Of E-Stim / Electro Sex
I was so ridiculously excited when we received our Kink Lab Neon Wand Electro Sex Kit. I have a long-term fixation with violet wands and my experience up until now has been limited to brief flirtations at fetish fairs and in fetish clubs, but I'd certainly experienced enough enough of their powers to know that I find them very erotic and very cool too.
The Neon Wand from KinkLab is a scaled down, less powerful version of the traditional violet wand kits and this is reflected in the price. For a fully restored kit containing the same basic implements it would cost anywhere between at least $400. For its price, the Kink Lab Neon Wand Electro Sex Kit provides a great platform for experimentation with violet wands and electro sex play without making a big financial investment. The good news is that many traditional violet wand electrodes are also compatible with this kit so there's plenty of room for expansion.
For most people this kit will be more than sufficient to satisfy their curiosities and provide a good platform for violet wand play. Hardcore BDSM exponents may find that the Neon Wand leaves them wanting something extra but will enjoy using it as part of progressive electro sex play.
The visual effect that the Neon Wand provides is not as spectacular as larger kits, but is still fun. The visuals are especially captivating on higher settings, which see a nice flood of colour running through the electrode to accompany the crackling operational sounds. The sparks given off are relatively small in size and don't leap great distances. You'll need to hold the electrodes quite close to the skin in order to see and feel the sparking.
The sounds and smells are exactly in keeping with traditional violet wands. You get the crackling noise that signifies the unit is live followed by a scent that smells similar to a new toaster being used for the first time but more subtle. This smell is ozone, a gas that is released during the operation of violet wands.
It's hard to describe the e-stim tingling sensations created by the Neon Wand. as pain and pleasure thresholds vary so much between people. I personally found the highest setting most pleasurable after working my way up, and not at all painful. Others may find the medium settings painful. As with all electro sex devices, starting off at the lowest setting and working your way up will ensure you don't stray outside of your comfort zone.
As advised in the instructions, the Neon Wand shouldn't be held over the same spot for more than 10 seconds as this can cause irritation. I didn't personally experience any red marks or irritation but these can be common side effects with electro sex devices, so it's best to test the kit out for sensitivity before using it for sexual purposes so you know what your body can handle. The best effect for me comes from holding the Neon Wand 1 to 2 cm away from the skin, causing it to spark and send waves of electricity through the glass and into my skin.
The sensation felt like a more subtle version of the violet wands I'd experienced during play at Torture Garden. As the electrical charge is traced along the body it becomes much more aware of everything - from the temperature of the room you're in to the touch of a person or a blanket brushing against your foot. Its ability to enhance physical sensation was not as powerful as with the larger units, but it was definitely there.
I tried out each of the electrodes in turn, starting with the comb, which I personally preferred out of all of the attachments. The comb can traced along the body to cause multiple sparks that tease and tickle the skin but is best used to comb the hair. The tingling sensations leave you feeling ultra alert to touch and give you the instant goose bumps that really accentuate sexual contact. Receiving a sensual hairbrush with the comb electrode while being kissed and stroked is an incredible turn-on for me. I quite like having my hair brushed by others anyway but I definitely prefer this.
The tongue electrode feels great in the mouth and is nice to suck thanks to the curvy shape. When holding it away from the tongue, it sparks beautifully and creates a sensation not dissimilar to licking batteries (yes, I learned to lick batteries from my grandfather as a way of seeing if they contained charge) but much more intense. There's something very sexy about having your mouth, lips and tongue teased with a sparking probe, it's all very sci-fi.
The smallest electrode provides the most intense electro stimulation and can be used to great effect around the nipples and genitals for precise stimulation. The feeling is much more intense than the larger electrodes and would best serve those looking for a pleasure and pain balance. I prefer to feel sensations across a wider expanse at the same time so I doubt this electrode will see much use in my home. In traditional violet wand kits this electrode could be used to cauterise the skin, but you won't get anything near that concentration of power with the Neon Wand Kit, so don't fret. At worst you'll get some faint red marks, but still use with caution while you're getting used to electro sex play.
The mushroom electrode was ideal for stimulating larger areas of the body and is great to start things off. Running this 1 to 2 cm above the skin on the insides of the arms, along the neck and collar bone and down the backs of the legs felt amazing and did just as much if not more for me than a massage, ensuring my body was ultra-sensitive to any touch.
I wouldn't suggest that violet wands are ever a main event in themselves, but are more of an enhancement to other sex play. Using the Kink Lab Neon Wand Electro Sex Kit in a similar way to feather ticklers enhances your physical sensation, makes you psychologically more alert to your sexual enjoyment and builds up your sexual anticipation, all of which leads to a more satisfying sexual encounter. For tease and denial I don't think I could recommend a better tool.
